Infectious, metabolic, and neurodegenerative diseases influence the chemical composition of human body odor. Some of these changes might be detected by humans. This project aimed to verify if humans are able to detect Parkinson's disease, mild cognitive impairment, COVID-19, and acute cold based on axillary body odor. Participants were asked to decide whether a body odor sample comes from a sick or a healthy person, rate it on different perceptual dimensions (such as pleasantness, intensity, familiarity), and describe it using verbal labels.
