资源简介:
This series and VPRS 4830 Index to Inwards Registered Correspondence - Land Grants I were prepared by Richard Leake, an official in the Records Registry of the Colonial Secretary's Office. The relationship between the two sets of records is currently unknown and their exact purpose is unknown. This index (a single volume) is divided into two parts. The first part is arranged in alphabetical sections with entries being made of subject and file (or correspondence) number. More complex entries may also have the file number, the date of receipt, the name of the applicant, the date of the letter and the amount of a claim. This section also includes references for apparently unrelated matters such as the details of correspondence references for the Ballarat riots (1854) and the trials subsequent to them and under 'E', Escort (Gold Escort) Robbers. The second part of this record deals with grants of land to religious institutions. Each entry gives the denomination and shows locality, allotment number, section, area, date of application and registered number of file or correspondence. The entries are all duplicates of those made in VPRS 1411 Index to Inward Registered Correspondence. The actual correspondence, using the reference numbers, may be able to be found in VPRS 19 Inward Registered Correspondence or VPRS 1189 Inward Registered Correspondence.Further details regarding these grants of land including those for special purposes may be found in VPRS 81 Land Grants for Special Purposes and VPRS 14146 Register of Grants for Special Purposes (Grants Without Payment) particularly in Unit 1.
