Heterochronic changes in gene expression underlie placental evolution in the fish family Poeciliidae

This study analyzes gene expression across four embryonic stages in closely related placental and non-placental species from the fish family Poeciliidae, which exhibit two independent origins of placentation. We explicitly test for two patterns of heterochronic gene expression.
