This cancer diagnosis codeset includes SNOMED, ICD-9, and ICD-10 codes. It was constructed by taking the union of the SNOMED descendants of concept_id 4312326 "Neoplasm, malignant (primary)", the SNOMED descendants of concept_id 4032806 "Neoplasm, metastatic", ICD-9 range 140-239 and ICD-10 range C00-D49. Based on feedback from clinicians, string search exclusions were applied to remove diagnoses that mention "benign" (excluding benign neoplasms of the brain), "hemangioma", "essential thrombocythemia", "melanocytic nevi/nevus/naevi/naevus", "lipoma", "neurofibromatosis" and "schwannomatosis". "Family history"/"history of" diagnoses were also excluded via string searches. ICD codes are included with and without decimal points, indicated by cc_decimal_removal. Note: concept_id 4312326 "Neoplasm, malignant (primary)" was upgraded and remapped to concept_id 37153816 "Malignant neoplasm" in 2022. Future uses and updates to this codeset should take this into consideration.
