Ameliorating dextran sulfate sodium-induced colitis in mice by treatment with layer-by-layer encapsulated Lactobacillus salivarius Li01

Probiotics, such as Lactobacillus salivarius Li01, has shown great potential in alleviating colonic inflammation through modulation of the gut microbiota. Here, a layer-by-layer (LbL) delivery system was designed in order to improve the resistance of Li01 to harsh conditions and targeted delivery to the colon. The ameliorative effect of LbL Li01 on colitis was investigated in a dextran sulfate sodium-induced colitis mouse model.
