The view shows rows of several dozen students and some faculty in front of a side of the wood-framed structure. At three windows above are a few students posed at each. The caption reads "Compton City School 1891." With a major crease running through the image, tape-repaired tears on the matte, small losses on the bottom corners, edge rubbing and soiling, the overall condition is poor. On the reverse side of the card is inscribed "C A Dickison / 700 Compton Boulevard / 1195 Santa Fe / Compton / Dad age 13 1891 class / Back second row from middle window / on the right just below / the shutter" as well as a sticker for Councilwoman Jane Robbins, 208 South Flower Avenue, Compton, California, USA. "C A Dickison" refers to Clarence Anson Dickison, Jane Robbins's father.
