Bond et al Giraffe Community Demography

Individual giraffe data were collected over 5 years (Jan 2012- Oct 2016) in the Tarangire Ecosystem of northern Tanzania using photographic capture-resight techniques. Surveys were conducted 6 times per year using a robust design; total of 30 surveys. All tracks were driven once per survey. Individuals were identified using Wild-ID pattern recognition software. Social network analysis was used to create a social network and the cluster-walktrap algorithm used to detect social communities. See methods in the main text and supporting information.The datasets contain individual encounter history data and community membership for 672 adult females and 732 calves. The datasets are structured as input files for Program MARK. Environemntal and social covariate data are available in Table S1 of supporting information to include in the design matrices.
