Data for "Forest Law Enforcement, Territorial Pressures, and Deforestation in the Brazilian Legal Amazon: A State-Level Panel Analysis"

This dataset supports the article “Forest Law Enforcement, Territorial Pressures, and Deforestation in the Brazilian Legal Amazon: A State-Level Panel Analysis.” It contains the derived state-year data used to construct the analytical variables reported in the study, covering the nine states of the Brazilian Legal Amazon from 2002 to 2022. The year 2002 is included to construct one-year-lagged explanatory variables for the effective analytical period of 2003–2022. The dataset was compiled from publicly available institutional sources, including PRODES/INPE, Ibama, the Brazilian Statistical Personnel Panel, MapBiomas, CEPEA, IBGE, and INPE’s active-fire monitoring system. Variable definitions, transformations, and specific data treatments are documented in the accompanying README file.
