MonteCarlo Analysis for Tolbert RI Retrieval

Atmospheric aerosol has long been documented to be capable of both scattering and absorbing incoming solar radiation, leading to either a net cooling or warming effect on planetary atmospheres. As such, it is important to characterize the optical properties of aerosol in a way that can be easily modeled. In the attached programs, code to perform Mie calculations are included in order to derive an aerosol’s refractive index from its measured extinction, absorption, size, and number concentration using size selected aerosol. In addition, a Monte Carlo algorithm is attached in order to retrieve error bars for the calculated RI values.
