Demulsifing bacteria have obtained a growing interest in the applications for separation of the oil and water phases of emulsions in petroleum oil recovery and oily wastewater treatment. Dietzia natronolimnaea S-XJ-1 was isolated from petroleum-contaminated soil of Karamay Oilfield, Xinjiang. The strain has been recognized as an ideal candidate for bacterial demulsification.
