Because mature sperm heads are precursors of the male pronucleus in the zygote and could thus pass epigenetically active information to the subsequent generation via R-loop-associated epigenetic information carriers, we correlated expression patterns before and shortly after zygotic genome activation. Therefore, we used DRIP-seq to compare the R-loop landscape of bonobo and human spermatozoa.
