A Stranger/Helper at Home: Families with Migrant Domestic Workers

The research team at Hong Kong Baptist University conducted a representative large-scale household survey in 2018/2019 to understand household labor patterns and the decisions to employ migrant domestic workers among Hong Kong families. This dataset contains the questionnaire, field reports, codebook and SPSS/CSV data files. The original files of the questionnaire were in Chinese and were later translated into English. In case of any discrepancies between the two versions, the Chinese version shall prevail. The data available in the data package is an abridged version. To protect the privacy of respondents, we have removed all personal identification information (including region, address, housing type, and phone number). Additionally, the research team has deleted data related to several questions due to issues such as data quality and relevance to other research projects; these questions are not included in the questionnaire provided on the webpage. Apart from these exclusions, most questions from the survey have been retained for use.
