Samples were collected from symptomatic water melon leaves and fruits expressing severe wilt and rot infection in Ibadan, Nigeria in 2018. The samples were surface sterilized, cultured on solidified Potato dextrose agar and incubated for 5 days. Sub culturing was done to obtain pure cultures of the isolates. Isolates were identified using cultural, microscopic and molecular characterization. The main objective of the study is to isolate and characterize the causal pathogen of watermelon wilt and fruit rot disease in Nigeria
