Replication Data for: Political Economy of Information Provision

We offer a theoretical model in which heterogeneous citizens express their prefer- ences over public provision of information. Because of the externality imposed by their own behavior, which is based on information they receive, citizens’ individual and public preferences differ: a citizen might want one level of slant in the informa- tion they base their actions on and a different level of slant in public announcements. We illustrate the mechanism by evidence on the early public response to COVID-19 in the U.S.
