Short term Amoxicillin-induced perturbation of the gut microbiota is linked to intestinal immune regulation in Brown Norway rats

Brown Norway rats (n=12/group, 4-5 weeks of age, both sex) received daily gavage of amoxicillin (30 mg in 0.5 mL) or water only for 7 days, and temporal effects on fecal microbiota community structure were followed daily during the course of the study. At the end of the study microbiota community structure in the proximal small intestine and cecum was analysed. Changes in microbiota composition were correlated to various host physiological and immune parameters.
