The overarching aim of this project is to characterize genetic diversity and resistance mechanisms associated with K. pneumoniae isolated from diseased patients in the public health sector in uMgungundlovu District, Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa; this in order to provide appropriate guidelines for a better and effective management of infections as well as the prevention and containment measures of resistance in hospital settings.
