Scope: Lacto-N-tetraose (LNT) and lacto-N-neotetraose (LNnT) are abundant tetrasaccharide isomers in human milk that differ by a single glycosidic linkage and are utilized by Bifidobacterium infantis. It is currently unknown to what extent they are differentially metabolized in bifidobacteria-dominated communities. Thus, this study investigated whether a B. infantis-dominated community prompts structural (i.e., taxa composition) and functional (i.e., metabolic) changes in an in vitro system.
