We focused on three native species in the Inner Mongolia Grassland: 1) a dominant C3 grass with the highest H (homeostatic), Leymus chinensis, 2) a subdominant grass, Cleistogenes squarrosa with low H, and 3) a minor forb, Chenopodium glaucum with the lowest H . To test our predictions with a long-term N addition study to assess changes in species abundances with N enrichment over time, and we used a sand culture experiment to assess changes in H with long-term N addition.
