资源简介:
This series comprises the minutes and papers of the Princes Hill Village–a facility related to the Mount Royal Hospital (VA 1280) and later the Melbourne Extended Care and Rehabilitation Service (VA 5265)– which was formed after the amalgamation of Mount Royal and the Greenvale Centre (VA 5267). Princes Hill Village was opened on 14 March 1961 to provide individual accommodation, rather than communal living, for the elderly. The facility was a five storey annexe in Pigdon Street, North Carlton, containing 96 self-contained flatettes and numerous recreational and communal areas. Medical services were provided by doctors from Mount Royal Hospital and the supervision of residents was overseen by nurses. At the time it was the largest development of its type in Australia. Designed to accommodate reasonably self-sufficient elderly people, the facility provided rehabilitation and preventive treatment to over 40 out-patients daily. Part of the £340,000 cost was met by a Commonwealth Grant under the Aged Persons Homes Act (Cmlth) 1954, while the Melbourne City Council provided the land and architectural services for no cost. Princes Hill Village was purchased by the Freemasons Hospital in the 1990s. Records in this series include Committee Minutes and Papers, Reviews, Working Party Meeting Minutes and Papers, Applications and House Rules, and Lease Documents.
