Patch scale biodiversity of phototrophic biofilms. Phototrophic biofilm patch types

We grew phototrophic biofilms in flumes fed by raw surface water (lake Geneva) and studied the diversity of prokaryotic (16S rRNA genes) and eukaryotic communities (18S rRNA genes) in different patch types. We observed 3 morphologically and compositionally distinct patch types: cyanobacteria-dominated base (CDB), Klebsormidiophyceae-dominated patches (KDP) and diatom-dominated patches (DDP). We used Illumina Miseq paired-end sequencing to describe these communities.
