Assessment of the international relations of the country and judgement
on American policy. Questions on security. Image of the USA.

Topics: Attitude to selected countries; assessment of the foreign
policy of the USA and the USSR; judgement of selected international
politicians; preference for an East or West orientation of one´s own
country; attitude to atomic energy; danger of a world-war; assessment
of the peace efforts of the USSR and the USA; preferred strategy to
guarantee the security of one´s own country (split); attitude to a
withdrawal of American troops from Europe; attitude to unification of
Western Europe; attitude to a Europe with a strong central government;
expectation of a common European Market; judgement on the chances of
achieving such a market; attitude to the atomic plan; effects of a
European unification on the influence of the Americans in Europe;
attitude to the new English defense plan; confidence in NATO and
assessment of its strength; sympathy for Israelis or Arabs in the
Near-East Conflict; judgement on American Near-East policy and the

In Great Britain the following questions were also asked: confidence
in the USA; attitude to the use of atomic bombs or hydrogen bombs on
enemy cities as well as on front-line troops; attitude to British
nuclear tests in the Pacific and an unconditional halt to these tests.

In the Federal Republic the following questions were also encoded: day
of interview and willingness of respondent to cooperate.

In Italy the following questions were also encoded: number of contact
attempts; reasons for refusal; place of interview.
