VPRS 14914 General Correspondence Files, Alpha Numeric System

This series comprises files created by a number of agencies, namely: Korumburra Sewerage Authority (VA 4724), Korumburra Waterworks Trust (VA 2110), Poowong, Loch and Nyora Waterworks Trust (VA 2147) and their administrative successor - Korumburra Water Board (VA 4723) that were compiled and maintained by Korumburra Water Board. It appears that sometime in 1988-1989 inactive files were archived retaining their original numbering system. The remainder of the files were allocated the alphabetical prefix to the existing file number according to their original provenance - thus prefix S was used for active files originating from the Korumburra Sewerage Authority; prefix W for Korumburra Waterworks Trust files and prefix P identified Poowong, Loch and Nyora district files. Some of the inactive archived files were later utilised and added to while retaining their original numbering system. Effectively, the system is inconsistent and despite the existence of the incomplete, and at times, inaccurate Indexes to General Correspondence Files - Alpha-Numeric Systems (VPRS 14917), retrieval of files relevant to a specific research would require thorough research of both the Indexes (VPRS 14917) and the Consignment Details List for this series.
