Change in deforested area in the Cerrado biome in Brazil 2013-2023

The deforested area of the Cerradio biome in Brazil increased by over three percent in 2023, when compared to the previous year. Between 1985 and 2023, Cerrado's natural vegetation loss stood at roughly 27 percent, the second highest in the country. The Cerrado biome encompasses the states of Goiás, Federal District, Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, and Tocantins. It is a tropical savanna ecoregion with two prevailing seasons, wet and dry. The dry season is intense and lasts from roughly April to September, the southern winter months.
