Water Right Regulations

<div>This feature class is for delineation of areas that have some type of regulation or set of restrictions to the drilling of new wells or some other ordered regulation that effects accessibility of water. <b><font color='#ff0000' size='4'>This feature class is not suitable for hydrologic analysis. </font></b><br /></div><div><b><font color='#ff0000' size='4'><br /></font></b></div>Certain areas within the State of New Mexico might contain restrictions, special conditions or other criteria that prohibit the drilling of wells within a basin. These areas are depicted here in order to protect public health, water quality, existing water rights, or protect the state's water resources.

Some regulations will require a notice to be issued for the area. Not all areas are under the sole jurisdiction of the Office of the State Engineer and can be municipalities, NM State Agencies or Federal Agencies.
