DWARF GALAXIES IN THE LOCAL GROUP

We propose XMM observations of 10 dwarf galaxies (DGs) in the Local Group. Thegalaxies form a uniformly selected sample whose members span a wide range ofmorphologies and of physical parameters, including total mass, fraction of massin neutral hydrogen, and masstolight ratios. With 115 ksec in total, we willreach luminosity limits ranging from 3e33 erg/s to 1.2e36 erg/s. We will detectmore than 100 Xray sources (XRSs). Our primary goal is to explore the range ofXray properties of DGs. We will (1) probe the nuclear regions, (2) compare XRSsin regions with recent star formation with those in older populations, (3)determine if there is a per capita excess of XRSs relative to the disk of theMilky Way, and (4) relate the Xray properties of DGs to their other characteristics. truncated!, Please see actual data for full text [truncated!, Please see actual data for full text]
