Three new metal(II)–organic coordination complexes, formula as [Cd<sub>3</sub>(btc)<sub>2</sub>(3-dpna)<sub>2</sub>(H<sub>2</sub>O)<sub>2</sub>]·8H<sub>2</sub>O <b>(1)</b>, [Zn<sub>3</sub>(btc)<sub>2</sub>(3-dpna)<sub>2</sub>(H<sub>2</sub>O)<sub>2</sub>]·4H<sub>2</sub>O (<b>2</b>) and [Co<sub>3</sub>(btc)<sub>2</sub>(3-dpna)<sub>2</sub>(H<sub>2</sub>O)<sub>2</sub>]·2H<sub>2</sub>O (<b>3</b>) [3-dpna = <i>N</i><sup>1</sup>,<i>N</i><sup>4</sup>-di(pyridin-3-yl)naphthalene-1,4-dicarboxamide, H<sub>3</sub>btc = 1,2,4-benzenetricarboxylic acid], have been successfully synthesized by the hydrothermal methods. Complexes <b>1</b>–<b>3</b> exhibit similar 3D coordination networks based on the [M<sub>3</sub>(btc)<sub>2</sub>(H<sub>2</sub>O)<sub>2</sub>]<i><sub>n</sub></i> [M = Cd(II) for <b>1</b>, Zn(II) for <b>2</b>, Co(II) for <b>3</b>] layers and the <i>μ</i><sub>2</sub>-bridging 3-dpna ligand containing the naphthalene-bridging group, representing a 4,4,4-connected {4<sup>2</sup>.6<sup>4</sup>}<sub>4</sub>{6<sup>4</sup>.8<sup>2</sup>} topology. The photocatalyitc properties of complexes <b>1</b>–<b>3</b> toward degrading organic dyes, the fluorescent of complexes <b>1</b>–<b>3</b> and the fluorescent sensing activities of complexes <b>1</b>–<b>2</b> toward detecting metal ions have been studied. Additionally, the electrochemical and electrocatalytic properties of complex <b>3</b> have been investigated.
