Skin microbiomes of frogs vary among individuals and body regions

The goal of this study was to characterize the variation in skin microbiomes among and within captive frog individuals and their local environments. We collected skin swabs from 10 distinct body regions of captive Sierra Nevada yellow legged frogs (Rana sierrae), and swabs/water filters from their tank aquaria. We then sequenced the V3-V4 region of the 16S ribosomal RNA gene from these samples to characterize associated bacterial communities.
