Classical anaerobic - oxic system was employed to treat heavy oil produced water, and the indigenous microbes were activated by controlling the dissolved oxygen. The microbial community composition was monitored through 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing, and the structure and characteristics of the actived strains in each treatment pool were confirmed.
