资源简介:
Archaeological excavation at the Crescent Shelter has spanned several decades. Cultural components noted extend from the Late Paleoindian to the Woodland and include the Altithermal period. The site lies along the hogback valley near Deer Creek. The site's location along the hogbacks, as well as its stratigraphy representing occupation from Paleoindian through Woodland made it a desirable location to examine the paleoenvironmental record for the Front Range of Colorado. The fact that this shelter contains deposits belonging to the Altithermal period made it more valuable, since these deposits often are lacking. Radiocarbon ages of 5155 + 110 BP and 5680 + 110 BP were obtained from levels approximately midway in this stratigraphic record. Stratigraphic pollen analysis was undertaken on sediments collected during the 1981 excavations. Funding for this analysis was provided by a grant from the State of Colorado and matching funds were provided by PaleoResearch Laboratories.
