VPRS 13627 Survey Level Books

The Victorian Railways had as its primary responsibility the construction, care and maintenance of the railways of the state. As part of this responsibility for construction, improvement and maintenance it was important that accurate survey data was gathered for the planning and carrying out of works.Survey books are the books taken out by surveyors into the field. Familiarity with survey techniques is necessary to make full use of these records.Records in this series consist of consecutively numbered notebooks known as Survey Level Books by the Victorian Railway surveyors in the field. Each book has an index at the front indicating the location in which the measurements were taken. These books were used in the field by the surveyors in conjunction with the Survey Field Books VPRS 13626 to record the data of surveys.
