The infrared satellite imagery is assembled from a dozen different geostationary and orbiting satellites around the world (providing the best satellite perspective for each region). There are challenges combining so many different satellites into one image due to differing scan frequencies, orbital rotations, resolution differences, calibration issues, and differing update schedules. Imagery from each satellite source must be carefully aligned in time to produce a seamless global mosaic. Available for 17 standard worldwide regions or the imagery can be custom created for any part of the globe.
