coastal microbial communities under storm induced runoff

This study investigated the influence of terrestrial runoff on coastal microbial communities near Okinawa Island, Japan. Water samples were collected from four nearshore sampling sites before, during, and after the two largest rainfall events of the 2018 Typhoon season. Mesocosm experiments were run concurrently to rain events to determine the effects of soil input on the coastal microbial community during run-off events. Samples were collected at t0 and 1, 4, 12, 24, and 48 hours following soil or dissolved iron addition from treatment and control (i.e. no additions) mesocosms. Microbial communities in soil samples were also evaluated.
