Potential Contamination Sources

This dataset identifies potential contamination sources (PCS) that may threaten drinking water supplies due to the use, handling, or storage of hazardous substances. The locations are based on marked-up drawings from water suppliers and interpolated using aerial photography and base map data. The dataset includes sites that may overlap with other DES databases, such as those for storage tanks, contaminated sites, and hazardous waste. Updates to the PCS layer should exclude sites already covered by other DES data layers. It serves as a tool to help identify risks to water quality, though field verification is recommended for precise assessments.
