Effects of different mucin-degrading bacterial consortia on intestinal inflammation

To assess the effects of different mucin-degrading bacteria in a DSS-induced colitis model, seventy-two 6-week-old male SPF C57BL/6J mice (19-21 g) were randomly allocated into nine groups (n = 8 per group). The Control group received 0.9% sodium chloride by gavage. The Model group was given 2.5% DSS in drinking water for 7 days. The other groups were administered 2.5% DSS plus daily gavage with 1.0 x 10^9 CFU of the indicated strains for 14 days: A. muciniphila (AM), R. gnavus (RG), B. cellulosilyticus (BC), B. fragilis (BF), AM+BC, RG+BF, and AM+RG.
