Intestinal microbiota, metatranscriptome and spleen and intestinal transcriptome of gilthead seabream upon infection with Enteromyxum leei

Enteromyxum leei is an intestinal parasite impacting gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata) aquaculture, among other species. In this study, we characterized the intestinal microbiota of control and parasite exposed fish upon different temperature conditions and along different infection times (2, 5 and 10 weeks post-exposure) by 16S rRNA (V3-V4) Illumina sequencing. In addition, the group exposed 10 weeks to the parasite at 18 C was used to perform transcriptome sequencing of posterior intestine and spleen, and metatranscriptome sequencing of posterior intestine mucus. This information will help elucidate the host-parasite-microbiota interactions in this economically relevant disease for aquaculture.
