In an effort to annotate protein-coding genes in the gemone of Egyptian fruit bat, RNA sequencing of the primary culture cells from kidney of Egyptian fruit bat was carried out. The kidney from the bat's fetus was fragmented by scissors and by treatment with TrypLE (Gibco) and cultured in DMED containing 5% FCS. Total RNA of the cultured cells were extracted by using TRIzol reagent (Thermo Fisher). The mRNA-sequencing libraries were constructed using a TruSeq Stranded mRNA Library Prep Kit (Illumina, CA, USA) , according to manufacturer's instructions. 101-base pairs of paired end reads were generated using an Illumina Hiseq2500 sequencer (Illumina, CA, USA). The sequences were mapped to the genome of the Egyptian fruit bat, and about 8000 expressed genes were identified.
