An accumulation of non-toxigneic C. diphtheriae cases was analyzed, located in Northern Germany with common social-economic characteristics, e.g. homelessness and drug abuse. In order to characterize the isolates in detail and to find out if an outbreak with a common strain is ongoing, next generation sequencing (NGS) analysis was used to study phylogenetic relationship.
