Genetic Variation in Androgen-related Genes in New World Monkeys

We explored the potential molecular mechanisms underlining the protective effects of masculinization in females exposed to male cotwins in the twinning callitrichine primates. We examined variation in genes related to sexual differentiation and masculinization in twinning and non-twinning New World monkeys (Cebidae). Regions containing nonsynonymous substitutions were sequenced in twinning and non-twinning Callitrichines and these substitutions were compared to the closely-related non-twinning Saimiri and Callimico monkeys.
