Metagenomic and gene expression patterns in declining commercial honey bee colonies

Field inspected colonies that vary in population strength were sampled in California in 2023 from beekeeping operations reporting significant colony losses. Colonies were categorized as Strong, Medium, or Weak based on two main criteria: the size of the adult bee population and the number of brood frames within each colony.
