Genetic Diversity and Environmental Adaptation in Ethiopian Tef

In this study, we test the hypothesis that these landraces exhibit patterns of polygenic adaptation along abiotic environmental gradients, captured by our chosen climatic variables. To address this hypothesis we sampled and re-sequenced a collection of tef landraces across their current distribution in order to (i) characterize the extent and geographic distribution of population structure; (ii) identify genetic variation associated with multivariate environmental gradients; (iii) isolate environmental factors contributing to population differentiation; (iv) detect genomic regions that have undergone recent selective sweeps; and (v) predict the suitability of existing germplasm to future climates.
