In the following case studies, the author examined five pairs of female-centered and male-centered films with similar plots and determined what role gender stereotypes play in how a woman in film is perceived. The author found that, very often, films with a woman or group of women who do not embody the common characteristics of women in film and/or the defined gender stereotypical personality traits for women were perceived as less important than movies about men with similar physical appearances and behavior.
