The Epstein Barr virus (EBV) positive Burkitt's lymphoma cell lines, Akata and Mutu, are common cell culture models for studying the function of EBV and its role in oncogenesis. For comparitive genomc studies and to provide a resource for genetic based studies using these systems, we have sequenced both genomes using Illumina paired-end sequencing. By inducing the EBV replication phase and by using a soluble DNA extraction approach, we have obtained ultra-high coverage of both genomes from a single lane of sequence.
