Language Use by Migrants from the Sixteenth-Century Southern Low Countries

This database collects biographical and linguistic information on individuals who migrated from the Southern Low Countries during the sixteenth century. The primary focus is on their language proficiency, migration patterns, and involvement in language-related professions after their migration. Data was collected over a five-year period (2021–2026) and includes individuals who moved to the Northern Low Countries, England, Germany, and other regions. The dataset provides insights into the multilingual capabilities of these migrants, their professions, and their contributions to intellectual and cultural life in their new locations.
