Tartary buckwheat floral bud RNA sequencing to find genes regulating seed hull traits

Tartary buckwheat (Fagopyrum tataricum) is an annual crop. Its seeds contain high levels of flavonoids and rutin, which are good for human health, and are used as flour and tea. Incomplete dehulling of the seeds can decrease the quality of those products. Tartary buckwheat cultivars that allow easy dehulling are called rice-type cultivars, and those that do not allow easy dehulling are Tartary-type cultivars. The rice and Tartary hull types are determined by a single genetic locus, but it is unclear which gene is present in this locus. The goal of this study is to narrow down genes that can be present in this locus.
