Development of extracellular matrix binding cytokine gene therapy for tissue regeneration

Cytokines are immune signalling proteins that control inflammation and tissue repair, but they often leave injury sites too quickly to be effective. This thesis develops a gene therapy approach that delivers cytokines modified to bind the body’s natural support structure and remain where healing is needed. The results show improved tissue healing and regeneration in animal injury models, supporting translation to safer and more effective treatments for tissue injury.
