Gut microbiota heterogeneity is associated with Narcolepsy type 1

Narcolepsy type 1 (N1) is an orphan disorder characterized by excessive daytime sleepiness, cataplexy, hallucinations, sleep paralysis and disturbed nighttime sleep. In order to identify a possible relation between Narcolepsy type 1 and Gut Microbiota, investigation motivated by a growing body of evidence supporting the complex interactions between the gut microbiota and the central nervous system, we sequenced the V3-V4 regions of the 16S rRNA gene of DNA extracted from stool samples to determine gut microbiota composition of 35 narcoleptic patients and 41 controls. We have investigated alpha, beta diversity, differential abundance and Predicted functional metagenomic potential.
