Geochemical characterization of Suio thermal waters and sourronding areas (Southern Italy)
收藏资源简介:
The degassing of deep-seated fluids, particularly carbon dioxide and methane, could generate localized pressure that, in turn, may triggers seismic events of low magnitude and relative high frequency. This process has been observed in volcanic and non-volcanic areas showing the relationship between gas release and seismic activity. Careful monitoring of these phenomena through geochemical sampling allows for a better understanding of these dynamics, helping to identify potential seismic precursors associated with degassing, thus contributing to a deeper comprehension of the related risk. The Suio village and its sourronding areas (boundary among Lazio and Campania regions), represent a key site for studying geochemical processes and understanding the deep dynamics of ascent fluids. The presence of a hydrothermal system in this area and redundant seismecity (https://terremoti.ingv.it/) was already highlighted in prior works. In this study, gases and water samples (from springs and hot/cold wells) were collected with the aim of providing a better understanding of water-gas-rock interaction processes, through the detailed study of chemical and isotopic parameter coupled with geochemical modeling.
