Youth literacy rate in Ethiopia 2005-2017, by gender

According to most recent available data, 72.75 percent of people in the age group of 15-24 years in Ethiopia were able to read and write a simple statement in 2017. Among females, the literacy rate was 71.97 percent, while males that could read and write were slightly higher, at 73.52 percent. For both gender, there was a drastic improvement from the figures in 2005. It is also worth noting that the gender gap diminished along the period.
