Synonym Dataset of Specialized Symptom Terms in TCM Gynecology

This dataset focuses on the standardization and alignment of specialized symptom terminology specific to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) gynecology. It constructs a “Preferred Term–Synonym” mapping resource covering four high-frequency gynecological conditions: Beng Lou (abnormal uterine bleeding), amenorrhea, infertility, and dysmenorrhea. The terminology was extracted from two main sources: (a) relevant literature in TCM journal databases from 1984 to the present, and (b) publicly available modern TCM case records published between 1951 and 2003. The selected case records were authored by experienced TCM practitioners born in the 1930s and 1940s.During the standardization process, synonymous terms were systematically compiled. Based on term frequency and expert judgment, the most frequently used expression was selected as the “preferred term” (i.e., standard name). This dataset excludes general terms such as tongue and pulse descriptions and instead focuses exclusively on gynecology-specific symptom expressions. It is suitable for tasks such as TCM information modeling, terminology standardization, and semantic mining.
