Background The Office of Head Start is part of the Administration of Children and Families. Head Start is a national program that promotes school readiness by enhancing the social and cognitive development of children through educational, health, nutritional, social and other services to enrolled children and families. Early Head Start promotes healthy prenatal outcomes, enhances the development of infants and toddlers, and promotes healthy family functioning. The Office of Head St art provides grants to a variety of agencies that will provide Head Start services to disadvantaged children and families. Users can also download the Biennial Reports to Congress, which provide much more information about the Head Start program.
